About the course
This masterclass provides a practical introduction to the structures, policies, and processes that shape municipal event management. Participants will explore how municipal governments operate and how the roles of Council, Committees, senior leadership, and staff influence event-related decision-making, approvals, funding, and accountability. Designed for municipal event professionals and those who work closely with local governments, the workshop examines the systems and governance frameworks that support successful community events. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of municipal policies, procedures, and by-laws, and how these tools are used to guide event planning, risk management, and operational decision-making. The workshop also explores strategic planning, budgeting, rates and fees, community grant programs, and the organizational processes that support event delivery and oversight. Through practical examples and real-world municipal scenarios, participants will develop the knowledge and skills needed to navigate municipal systems with greater confidence and effectiveness. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a stronger understanding of how municipal governments support events, how to align event initiatives with organizational priorities, and how to work effectively within municipal structures to improve event outcomes.
