Municipal Event Advisory Committees (MEACs)

Designed for both municipalities with existing MEACs and those looking to establish one. This masterclass addresses both the strategic and operational roles of Municipal Event Advisory Committees (MEACs) in strengthening municipal event planning, permitting, and coordination.  Participants will explore the systems and best practices for how MEACs support interdepartmental collaboration, improve oversight, and align community events with municipal priorities. Core components covered include committee structure, roles and responsibilities, terms of reference, and decision-making processes. This masterclass is not just for municipal event staff. Past participants include: police, fire, by-law, public works, parks and recreation representatives.  By the end of the masterclass participants will have actionable skills strategies to strengthen MEAC effectiveness, improve committee governance, and enhance their overall municipal event management systems. Course format This course is delivered through a flexible cohort model that combines self-paced online learning with the opportunity for live peer engagement. Participants can register at any time before the course end date and will have 60 days from their enrolment date to complete the course materials. The course includes one optional live virtual connection session. While attendance is not required, this facilitated session is highly recommended to connect with municipal event professionals from across Canada, discuss common challenges, share experiences, and reinforce key course concepts. Learning is supported through interactive knowledge-testing activities embedded throughout the course modules. To successfully complete the course, participants must achieve a minimum score of 75% on each knowledge-testing activity. Unlimited attempts are provided, allowing participants to revisit the material and demonstrate mastery at their own pace.
